Description

Neskowin Beach by Moonlight.  Photographed near Proposal Rock, this horizontal composition is dominated by blues, with whites and blacks playing counterpoint.  The dark forms of the shore rocks impose on the left side of the frame while the light reflected off of the water balances it at the right side of the frame, that interplay between light and dark extending on down into the rest of the frame from the horizon a third of the way down from the top.  A few seabirds are visible in the distance near the waterline.  The scene is a whole is dramatic yet tranquil, and full of the motion of curving forms which counterpoints the static monochromatic color scheme of the image.  Proposal Rock is located at Neskowin Beach, off of the tiny coastal resort town of Neskowin, on the central Oregon coast.  Neskowin beach offers a variety of scenes, from wave-torn rocks, to gently-sloping sandy beaches, to the romantic Proposal Rock, and even the sunken forest of historical and geological interest.  Neskowin is located about twenty miles north of Lincoln City, or thirty miles north of Newport, Oregon.  See also my many other shots of Proposal Rock, Neskowin Beach, and the Oregon coast.  Stock photo.
