Description

Fort Rock Twin Towers- horizontal format.  Two massive towers of red lava rock thrust into a deeply blue cloud-studded sky, the blue contrasting with the yellow blossoms of the sage in the caldera floor.  The rocks are quite angular, the play of shadow and light emphasizing their angularity.   The upwardly turned camera angle heightens the sense of mass and sheer vertical nature of the edifices.  Fort Rock is an ancient volcanic caldera, located in Fort Rock State Park a little south of the lava fields that flowed from the Newberry Crater in the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, a bit south of Bend, Oregon.  See also my several other shots of Fort Rock, and other scenic photos of volcanic Oregon.  Stock photo.
