These are the sponges, some of the simplest of animals of all. Adult sponges are sessile, never moving from one place. Sponges lack any true organs or tissues. Their bodies are made up of a matrix of substances like spongin and silica, forming a network of interconnected chambers and passages through which water flows, bringing them nutrients and eliminating wastes.
